The Golden Globe winner, 64, and his 52-year-old actress wife have separated, according toPeople. The couple had been one of Hollywood's longest-lasting romances, tying the knot in 2002 after dating for about seven years.

Gere's rep declined to comment on the matter.

The couple share one son, 13-year-old Homer, and plan to keep things civil for his sake. "They'll do everything possible to keep things amicable and put their child first," a source described as a family friend tells People.

Both Gere and Lowell have been through divorce before. He was famously married to Cindy Crawford from 1991 to 1995, while Lowell's previous spouses include photographer John Stember and actor-director Griffin Dunne (with whom she has an adult daughter).

While there's no official reason for the split, theNew York Post reports the Gere-Lowell union ultimately fell apart because he enjoys his solitude, while she's more of a social creature. The newspaper claims that the pair have lived apart for some time — he in Bedford, New York, and she in North Haven, New York.

Just five years ago, the "Pretty Woman" actor was in a much different place, as he gushed about his bride to Parade.

"Our marriage is brilliant because of Carey," he said. "She's a fellow traveler with me on the voyage. We're partners, honest mirrors in which to see ourselves and grow and change. We help each other. It is love without ego."

Kanye West hires Lindsay Lohan's attorney Shawn Holley to fight his paparazzi scuffle case... with high profile lawyer claiming her client acted in 'self defense'

Kanye West has retained Lindsay Lohan's attorney Shawn Holley to defend him in a civil lawsuit filed by a paparazzo after a scuffle in July.

And as it was revealed that the high profile legal eagle took on the rapper's case, she filed court documents last week, claiming her client acted in self-defense.

Kanye, 36, tangled with photographer Daniel Ramos on July 19 at Los Angeles International Airport after being peppered with questions.

Subsequently, Ramos announced his civil lawsuit against the star at a news conference with another  high-profile attorney, Gloria Allred, in August.

The civil lawsuit accuses the rapper of assault, battery and interference with the photographer's civil rights and also seeks unspecified damages.

On Friday, Holley filed documents in court stating that, 'Daniel Ramos is not entitled to relief of any claims set forth in the complaint.'

'Daniel Ramos willfully and wrongfully caused Kanye West to reasonably believe his safety was in immediate danger,' the filing continues.

 

'Kanye West responded to this assault by doing only those acts that were reasonably necessary for his self-defense and safety and was justified in doing those acts,' said the document filed by Holley, whose hiring by West was first reported by RadarOnline.com.

The document also asks for West to be awarded his court costs incurred in the lawsuit, according to a document obtained by TMZ.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office in August declined to pursue felony criminal charges against West in connection with the scrap.

The Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, which prosecutes lower level criminal offenses, has charged West with criminal battery and attempted grand theft. 

Both charges are misdemeanors, but West could be sentenced up to a year in jail, if found guilty.

Holley has been the defense lawyer for the now-reforming Lohan and her myriad of legal woes.

She has also previously worked on behalf of Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, Mike Tyson, The Game and Michael Jackson.

She is married to singer Dorian Holley, an on-stage backup singer for Jackson during the 1987 Bad World Tour.

West and his 32-year-old reality television star girlfriend Kim Kardashian welcomed daughter North in June.

Liam Payne “acted quickly and swiftly” to rescue his guests from fire. During a party at the 20-year-old’s £2 million East London penthouse on Tuesday night a fire broke out on the veranda injuring three people. The blaze lit up while a young man named Andy Samuel filled up the tank for a heating lamp with fuel and Andy’s stepfather Matthew Baker credits Liam for his bravery. “We are so grateful to Liam because he saved his life,” Matthew gushed to British newspaper The Daily Mirror. “The lantern just exploded as Andy was lighting it and it took the full force of the flames. Liam helped him by beating out the flames and dousing him with water. He acted quickly and swiftly.” Matthew claims that everyone is still shaken up by the incident, which saw 35 fire fighters extinguishing the flames from the Canary Wharf building and 30 residents evacuated from the premises. Andy received burns on 20 per cent of his body, but Liam has been a pillar of support for his friend throughout. “What happened was absolutely awful. My son is very poorly,” Matthew said. “I’ve spoken to Liam on the phone and he told me exactly what happened. He is very shocked himself. It’s bad enough but it could have been a lot worse.” Another man and a woman are said to have suffered superficial burns to their hands in the accident. Earlier in the day, Liam filmed a music video with his bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson. But since the tragic event it is reported he has rarely left his friend’s side in the hospital.

New Zealand 'Blurred Lines' parody goes viral

A feminist parody of Robin Thicke's controversial hit "Blurred Lines" has gone viral on YouTube after being briefly banned from the video-sharing website for being too raunchy. The spoof by three Auckland University law students titled "Defined Lines" satirises Thicke's song with a music video that uses bare-chested males in submissive poses, instead of the topless female models featured in the original version. The clip posted by the Auckland Law Review has racked up almost 600,000 hits on YouTube and with reposts from other users is approaching the one million mark. The number of views has almost doubled since the video was pulled from the website on Monday for "sexually inappropriate content", then allowed back up less than 24 hours later after YouTube admitted it had made a mistake. Thicke's song contains the refrain "I hate these blurred lines/ I know you want it" and has been condemned by critics who say the lyrics refer to the issue of sexual consent. In the book – Kate: The Future Queen – a family friend tells how  Carole expressed her fears to  William. But he assured her that not only would there be an engagement and subsequent marriage, the couple hoped to have children – and he promised Carole that she would be fully involved in their upbringing.

William stayed true to his word.  The couple were engaged the following November and since their son George was born on July 22, Carole has become the most famous grandmother in Britain.

She and her husband, Michael, were the first family members to visit the new baby after his birth – ahead of Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall – while Kate and William have even set aside a ‘granny flat’ for the Middletons at their lavish Kensington Palace apartment.

Another of the Middletons’ friends, former neighbour George Brown, says: ‘It was a condition when Kate and William got married that Carole and Michael would be a part of the grandchildren’s lives.’

It has previously been put down to mere coincidence, but it seems Kate deliberately plotted to be there at the same time as the prince.

Jasper Selwyn, a careers adviser at Kate’s former school, Marlborough College, and Joan Gall, her house tutor, confirm in the book that her first choice was not St Andrews at all, but Edinburgh.

Despite achieving the required grades for Edinburgh, one of the country’s top universities, she changed her mind after William’s own choice of university was  made public.

In a bold move, Kate turned down the place she had been offered at Edinburgh, decided to take a gap year, just as William was doing, and reapply for St Andrews – a risky strategy as there was no guarantee that she would get a place. Since then, of course, their relationship has flourished.

In another fascinating insight into the Royal romance, the book reveals that although Kate has taken on a higher public profile since her marriage, she in fact began doing secret charity work six years ago.

In 2007 the Queen quietly suggested to William that Kate get involved with a charity, and they both considered it an excellent idea. 

The Middletons’ family firm, Party Pieces, already had a connection with Starlight, a children’s charity which grants terminally ill children a once-in-a-lifetime wish.

Kate arranged to meet the charity’s chief executive officer Neil Swan to see how she could help more.

He said: ‘Kate was working with Party Pieces at the time and she came up with a clever idea for a party bag that doubled up as a colouring-in gift.

‘She also designed some Starlight-themed crayons and other bits and pieces to go in the bags. To us, she was just Kate, and we would go and have meetings with her at Party Pieces, and sometimes she would come to us.

‘She came up with lots of creative ideas for parties that we were arranging for sick children, and she did a lot of work below the radar.’

The new book reveals how Kate believed their relationship was finished unless she had his full commitment.

But, at the age of 24, William was scared by commitment and was enjoying his lifestyle in the Army.

In April 2007 they decided to end their relationship - only for Carole to reassure her daughter that the split would not be forever.
